You are generally calm, although some situations can make you feel anxious or tense, however you experience panic, confusion, and helplessness when under pressure or stress. You lead a leisurely and relaxed life. You would prefer to sit back and smell the roses than indulge in high energy activities. You prefer facts over fantasy and are more interested in what is happening in the real word. You are willing to take credit for good things that you do but you don’t often talk yourself up much, however you are not adverse to confrontation and will sometimes even intimidate others to get your own way. You are not an overly cautious person. You will think about alternatives and consequences but make up your mind fairly quickly.

Me. Mememe. Me, me, me.

1. Do you promote your blog?
A little bit. It’s on my flickr page, my ravelry page, and I just joined “The Mom Blogs“. And occasionally, I redirect people from my old blog.

2. How often do you check hits?
Maybe once every week or two. The best part of checking hits is seeing what searches brought people here.

3. Do you stick to one topic?
Yea, no, kinda. I focus mostly on the positive things going on in my life. My blog is my “happy place”.

4. Who knows that you have a blog?
My family and some of my friends. My family doesn’t find me interesting enough to read! :-P

5. How many blogs do you read?
A LOT. I try to cut back, and then I find new ones to check out.

6. Are you a fast reader?
Yep. There aren’t a lot of blogs that I actually read though. I tend to skim through and look at all the pretty pictures.

7. Do you customize your blog or do anything technical?
Well, I got my header from a template and I have a sidebar. So, nah, not really.

8. Do you blog anonymously?
Define “anonymous”, hehe. I discuss the general area that I live in and post pictures of myself and my family. I used to use my children’s names in my early blogging days, but don’t anymore.

9. To what extent do you censor yourself?
It depends on the issue. For example, I don’t talk about my marriage, but if I’m having some sort of parenting crisis, I might talk about that. I know it’s kind of a joke b/c I blog, but I’m a pretty private person. For the most part, what I share here is no more than I would share with a casual acquaintance. I’m ok with that.

10. The best thing about blogging?
The community! A few years ago, I could have never imagined how blogging would really take off. I also feel like I’ve gotten to know a few of my friends better and even make some new friendships b/c of blogging. Fabulous!

NonBlog Meme

The Rules:

1. After your intro, copy/paste this line and the rules below it: The originator wants to see how far it goes so please keep his link intact: http://rileycentral.net/

2. Encourage people to post with the incentive of a link by including those who have passed it along here:(Your link here and so on . . .) http://www.tifiblogs.com

3. Visit at least 3 on the list that’ve written and passed this meme. Leave them a comment..

Damien at Riley Central says, “Today I hereby unblog my mind with this post. One reason MANY of us writers get writer’s block is because we don’t nurture the things that give us joy. We spend too much time on the computer trying to write when we haven’t done anything worthy of writing about! To illustrate what makes me tick, and what gives me pure joy I am choosing 3 things I enjoy more than blogging and writing about them! Pick three things that enrapture, consume, fascinate, or otherwise enliven you more than blogging. Then write a few lines about each to explain what the nonblog activity does for you, why and how.”

Top 3 things I enjoy more than blogging:

1. Reading: I used to say ballet was my first love, but now, I don’t think so. I started to read when I was 3 and have never stopped. There is nothing that has the power to calm, teach, excite or motivate me like a good book. Not every piece of reading material has to be deep or meaningful, but I do like most of my reads to be educational in some way and/or fun. I know a lot of people don’t consider 19th century women’s brit lit fun, but I do! :-D

2. Ballet: It’s hard for me to put into words the way dancing makes my heart sing (hehe). I love the music, the passion, the movement, the way I can feel the story I am watching or dancing. There’s nothing like it. I have really stayed away too long and it makes me very sad.

3. Traveling: I’m going to have to agree with Ebonymommy on this one. My mom has worked in the airline industry since she was 18 and so travel has always been a part of my life. I haven’t been to many places, but I’ve been to places that were cool enough to really open my eyes to the possibility of world travel. (Alaska is the most beautiful, besides St. Lucia, of course ;) and London the best shopping so far.) My grandmother used to travel a lot as well and I loved seeing her pictures. With my aunt in Japan, with friends in Curaçao, it was really inspiring. I hope to check off every country on my “to visit” list and to add more as time goes by.

JJ made me do it.

She tagged me and so…

Four Things About Me:

Jobs I’ve Had

1. Graphics Printing Company secretary

My first job! It was in a little office in Chinatown and was very fun.

2. Travel agency Gal Friday

This one was fun too, except for my slightly creepy boss. He tried to yell at me one time and I pulled the mom card b/c he knew my mother (it’s how I got the job). This was my first grown up job (on Madison Avenue no less) and I spent pretty much all my money going out and buying clothes. I made a very good friend there and I wish we were still in touch!

3. Jewelry sale clerk-Macy’s

Ugh, hated this job. You were supposed to prevent the customers from trying on the jewelry, but hardly anyone listened. Also, I got hit on a lot and then got accused of stealing. Whatever, Macy’s! As if!

4. Babysitter

My favorite charge was my “cousin” Kiki who I picked up, took to music lessons and helped with homework, etc. DH and I were dating at the time and he couldn’t stand DH stealing my affections from him, lol. The few times Luis was around, Kiki would ask dryly whether he was leaving yet.

1. Brooklyn, NY
2. Castries, St. Lucia
3. Coral Springs, FL
4. Yeehawsville, TX
Foods I Love:
1. Greenfigs and saltfish

August 30, 2007

Seen around the web…

Apparently, it’s from an article in Real Simple:

name: Dee age: Under 30! occupation: Depends on the day
family members: husband: Luis, kiddos: ZB, 7; Girlie, 5; and Bebe, 2 1/2.

I realized I had turned into my mother when…: I used a St. Lucian expression. “Don’t let the queeze take me eh? Bon!” which basically means don’t make me flip out on you.

the last time my children made me laugh: ZB showed me his yoga moves from gym class. That was funny. And yesterday, Girlie told DH to “go cry Emo kid“. Long story, but hilarious.

the last time I made my children laugh: Hm, probably yesterday when I chased them around the house.

when i need to get dinner on the table in a hurry: I make frozen ravioli and dump a quickly made pasta sauce on top. They love it.

i carve out time for myself by: reading in my cozy room and going out alone throughout the week.

the last book i read to my child: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

he gadget that saves me the most time: the computer. Very helpful to answer “why, mommy?” questions.

when I was a kid, I said, “When I’m a parent, I will never…”: be a pushover. I succeed sometimes.

the invention i would create to make my life easier: an affordable robot maid/cook.

favorite outdoor activity to do with my children: Going to the beach. I can sit down or build sandcastles with them, or we can all get in the water. It’s usually empty, so I don’t  have to be on uber mama guard duty. Relaxing.

how i get my children to eat vegetables when they refuse: They just do. We all love veggies!

i hope my kids inherit: my love of reading and dh’s comedic timing.

before I turn off the lights at bedtime, I say to my children: I love you, sleep tight, don’t let the muggalunchies (made up family word) bite!

the most noticeable way parenting has changed me: It made me realize what I thought I wanted for my kids before I had them is totally different from what I really want for them.

favorite tradition I share with my children: Tea time passed down from my mom and we enjoy something we call “family feasts” which is basically, eating together, hehe.

three things my children have taught me are: That I still have a lot to learn, that children really are little sponges, and that if you believe in something, it’s real.

the hardest thing about being a mom: Needing to have an amount of patience that I just don’t.

when I have 30 minutes to myself I: read books and blogs, eat junk food and chat with friends online.

the television mom I’m most like: A mix of the three main mothering characters on Desperate Housewives.

one thing I wish I had known about parenting before I became a parent: That one really needs help, and should live near grandparents if at all possible! :-P
