These are my latest yarn purchases. The background is a “painting” I’m working on and will probably never show. I am in no way, shape, or form an artist, and my work will probably be embarrassingly simple, and never make the blog, heh. I used my gift certificate, so yea, I’m still winning the “no spend” game. The greens are for a hat I want to make for myself. Probably Foliage. I won’t need two skeins though, so I’ll probably end up taking one back and getting some yummy Manos instead. I also got a blue skein of nature wool, but now I’m meh on that too. The Noro, also meh now that I’m home. First of all, I meant to buy Silk Garden, but forgot, and bought Kureyon instead. Second, I was going to make a scarf with it but 1)I already have a scarf that I wear constantly and love, and 2)Meh. LOL. I was a little disappointed in visiting this shop, as I always am. They didn’t have the circs, DPNs, or stitch markers I wanted (the whole point of the visit was to pick up supplies to make FOliage)and said they were doing inventory, but the few times I have gone, they’ve always been out of something I wanted. One thing I do love, is the attitude of the shopkeeper and the knitters at the store. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. There was a sock class going on while I was there, which was cool to watch. Not like another very popular yarn shop in Austin where I always feel like I’m not cool enough to shop there. I hate being made to feel that way, don’t you? OK, enough with the OT. Happy Saturday!
This hat that is! I made this for T’s new baby girl born Christmas Eve but couldn’t post it till she got it in the mail. Didn’t prevent me from putting it up on flickr though.
I’m so glad it fits! Since all her girls are amazons, I was worried it wouldn’t, heh. I wanted something cute, relatively simple, but not boring. So, I pulled out my handy dandy Reader’s Digest book of Needlework, or whatever it’s called and found this stitch pattern called “baby fern”. A couple of calculations and one husband sent to the yarn store, and tada, a baby hat.
My knitting is definitely cyclical. I knit tons more in the Fall and Winter than in the Spring and Summer. This is maybe the fourth hat I’ve made recently and I got it off the needles just in time as my mom was asking about it yesterday. I crocheted her a hat for Christmas ‘06, but she wanted something less lacy now. The pattern is Stella’s hat and I knit it one needle size up. A mistake as the yarn was stretched a bit as a result. But I used what I had on hand. I think I need to pick up some needles in the sizes I don’t have with my yarn store gc.

The kids enjoy Luis teasing them in a way they would never tolerate from me.

Oh, is the camera on?

I made Bebe this hat a few weeks ago but he snatched it as soon as it was off the needles. This was the first chance I got to take a picture of it.

Dana Milena’s birthday was a few weeks ago, and we missed it. So, we threw a belated birthday party with cupcakes and all.

“That’s wasn’t the real Santa, I could tell by his face.” That was the reason Girlie gave for not sitting on the big guy’s lap at the library.

Last Day of school for 2007!

Me, DH, and Bebe crashed Girlie’s Christmas party. OK, it wasn’t crashing, we were invited!

And then we headed over to ZB’s Pajama party. I let him wear his new Christmas Eve Pjs from Grandma early. I love the look on his face here, he makes those kinds of faces all the time now.
Happy Solstice!
Bring on the Solstice/Christmas season, I’m ready! All four of our trees are up. The “fancy” tree, the small family ornament tree, and the two older kids’ mini trees. I’ve got the stockings hung, the wreath on the door, the windows decorated, etc, etc, etc. I started making a Christmas village. I’ve been baking, and I’m even doing holiday knitting. BUT, I really need to get my house in order. Having the kids home for about a week threw off my housework and so the laundry pile is probably Bebe’s height. Yea, I should get on that. But before I go, pictures!

That’s my favorite ornament. It’s a pop-up paper snowflake ornament by Robert Sabuda for MoMA and was given to me by my stepbrother a few years ago. It was the second snowflake ornament I was ever gifted, and so I decided to start collecting unique ones.

Girlie and I have been working on our little holiday village, this was the first house. What’s more fun than paint and glitter? Not much.

A little hat I’m working on. I couldn’t resist this adorable yarn from Hobby Lobby when it finally went on sale.

The cover of Girlie’s book. Inspired by the ones over at soulemama.

I picked up two of these Japanese mugs at Sally Ann’s for a quarter each. I first saw similar ones on flickr and I have a non Christmas one, too.

No, it’s not really here yet in Texas. But I like to pretend. This is my latest WIP. A scarf done in Misti Chunky Alpaca. This yarn has been a few things, but I don’t think it’ll be ripped back this time. This is actually the pattern that came on the label. I found it on ravelry. The acorns, leaves, and pinecones are from the nature walk Bebe and I took around the neighborhood. It’s so wonderful to just be able to walk in the morning and not feel like you’ll melt b/c of the heat. Ah, Texas. :-/

A friend (and reader) is pregnant with her third son and so I’m sending a little gift for her boys. These booties* were so easy to knit! They were knit flat and then seamed which I don’t mind since my projects are always small and I don’t like DPNs. I made the pair while having an Alias marathon with DH over the weekend. For the group of brothers, I got this book which I think is just the perfect gift for a family expecting their third.
