In the last 24 hours…

  • The bump on ZB’s head turned out to be ringworm.
  • I got the blue screen (hopefully not of death) on my computer.
  • The kids’ doctor’s office informed me that I have a balance, and it turns out they submitted claims to my insurance company late. I’m not paying a thing!
  • ZB had his honor roll ceremony.
  • I started jumping through hoops trying to get a proctor and set up my exam for my first class.
  • I realized the bug bite on my neck is ringworm too.

The mind says yes, but the body screams no!

I decided last week to start riding my bike daily. I was going to ride it twice a day, two miles each time. And then, I actually started riding. I can not believe how out of shape I am! I mean, I’m pretty healthy, I eat well, and I was having trouble with little inclines!     Thank goodness Luis talked me out of the trail I originally wanted to do, which is much steeper. Anyway, I persevered, and managed to do one mile yesterday, and then another mile this morning. I think I set the bar too high originally. Maybe next week, I can move up to two miles a day. I remember when I was a kid and teen, I would ride my bike or rollerblade with my friends around Prospect Park once and twice. I checked and that distance is 3 miles. And here, I can barely do one lousy mile? Pathetic! Which is why I’m working on it.

Since I last blogged…

  • I got all set to start school again. I start an elementary education program tomorrow! All online. I am excited and determined to finish. At first, I thought I would do that, then get my MLS to become a librarian, but now, I am thinking of becoming a teacher after all. I know it’s twee and all, but maybe I’ll end up being someone who can make a difference.
  • I took ZB to the neurologist about those headaches he’s had over the past year plus. She doesn’t think anything is seriously wrong, but she wants to do an MRI just to be sure. He also has a prescription for Maxalt now. I don’t know if I’m going to fill it though.
  • We went back to the ADHD specialist, and I was pretty disappointed. He felt that meds were the way to go and that anything else wouldn’t work. What? Otay. Totally ignoring his advice and doing things my way (possible dietary changes, lots of exercise as usual, yoga, maybe acupuncture, maybe some other holistic stuff). The best thing to come out of this diagnosis deal has been getting ZB’s teacher to lay off.
  • I’ve become a vegetarian. I’ve been “almost” vegetarian for a while now, rarely eating meat, but now I’ve cut it out all together. I don’t miss it at all. I don’t know if I’ll stay vegetarian, but I’m happy for now and trying to make sure I get all the proper nutrients.
  • I have been purging more crap from around the house. Why does it feel so good to get rid of things you don’t need? I always tell DH that I don’t want to be one of those people that when I die, my family has to sort through loads of my junk. I am always working towards simplicity.
  • I’ve had a lot of fun with my family including a field trip to the zoo with Kindy and 2nd grade. Pics to come, of course.

I hate insurance companies. That is all.

Finally!

I’ve got a bit of energy. Of course, now everyone’s asleep and so I have to tiptoe around in the half dark doing things. I felt slammed for a bit earlier. Achy back from letting the whole gang sleep with me last night, plus allergies, and getting my period . Combined, it felt like the start of the flu. Not fun.

Fighting allergies today…

and barely winning. Ugh, I think I should go lie down.

Why?

  • Why am I so excited about the return of American Gladiators?
  • Why does Extreme Home Makeover make me get dust in my eyes*?
  • Why did it take months for me (and other parents) to realize that the new school playground equipment was finished? Seriously, it’s a climbing ball that has some modern art wtf qualities.
  • Why is it 80 degrees one day and 40 the next?
  • Why am I just as excited as the kids that we got High School Musical 2 from Netflix?
  • Why am I mad that my friend had the great idea to get the kids a magazine subscription for Christmas? I wish I had thought of that for her kids!
  • Why did I really wish I lived abroad after watching Sicko? I know a lot of negative things about living in other countries like France were glossed over, but hey, my dad, aunt, and several half siblings live in Paris, built in babysitting is a plus! :-P
  • Why is DD like a little ghost at night -floating from room to room and turning lights on and off?
  • Why did JcPenney send me 2 $10 off a $10 purchase coupons after I spent $10 on a new top? (Worn in the pic below)
  • Why am I surprised by how much I like Eat, Pray, Love?

*almost cry

B.O.B.

Kids are sick, but on the mend I think. Girlie with her non-strep streppy thing still. *eyeroll* She’s had so many wrong diagnosis (strep, rash, strep, rash, eczema, exactly like strep, but rash.) I’m pissed at all the time and money I’ve spent in her ped’s office and in the ER (really painful itching on her palms, soles of her feet, hives, etc) only to find out they didn’t really know what the heck was going on either. Then I find out ridiculous things like my insurance will only cover Zyrtec for a child two or under. I mean, w.t.f.?? I miss Tricare.

Why do we only have 5 spoons?? We probably have 20 butter knives, but somehow, our spoons have dwindled down to one for each family member. Mind you, all of them are from different sets of cutlery!

How is it possible to run out of so many basics at one time? This morning I had to buy bread, sugar, milk, eggs, and tissue.

My dog snores. It’s not cute.

I guess this is a bulleted list without the bullets.

I guess I should turn my computer on and put some pictures up here at some point, huh? We’ve been doing fun things when we aren’t itchy, stuffy, or sneezy.

I need to do some utilitarian sewing. We need placemats and I need some floor mats that won’t unravel like those cheapy woven rag rugs I love.

I finally scored some Bob the Builder DVDs at the library, woot! I’m Bebe’s new best friend. :-D

I also got him a toddler bed in perfect condition for $5 at the little old lady thrift shop. Let’s see if he’ll actually sleep in it. I’m not ashamed to be a cosleeper (actually, the opposite). I’m just ready to have my bed back. I’m not ashamed that I’m still nursing him either. Just ready to have my b.reasts back.

I’m going to go make chocolate bread and fantasize about going antiquing in Paris while the kids watch Bob.

International Walk to School month…

Did you know?

We walk to/home from school at least three days a week. :D
