The mind says yes, but the body screams no!

I decided last week to start riding my bike daily. I was going to ride it twice a day, two miles each time. And then, I actually started riding. I can not believe how out of shape I am! I mean, I’m pretty healthy, I eat well, and I was having trouble with little inclines!     Thank goodness Luis talked me out of the trail I originally wanted to do, which is much steeper. Anyway, I persevered, and managed to do one mile yesterday, and then another mile this morning. I think I set the bar too high originally. Maybe next week, I can move up to two miles a day. I remember when I was a kid and teen, I would ride my bike or rollerblade with my friends around Prospect Park once and twice. I checked and that distance is 3 miles. And here, I can barely do one lousy mile? Pathetic! Which is why I’m working on it.

Good for you! I hear you on the out of shape thing. When I started running it was more like a fast walk! LOL now I am up to two miles a day and it doesn’t hurt as bad lol

hehehe!! yeah, we go for a bike ride a few times a week but it’s at the kids pace….more like a coast for me! ;-) i agree, set smaller goals. plus you’ll stay more motivated when you (easily) reach them!! good luck!

Go go go! Yeah, I know. It’s painful. But you can do it! Just don’t kill yourself. Baby steps, I mean pedaling.

Yay–keep at it! It is tough, I know. But the more you do it, the better you’ll feel and it will get easier.

My bike is in the garage. It’s dusty. I need to get it out and start the after dinner rides like we did last spring/summer.

It’s amazing how much work it is to ride a bike. It seems like it should be easy since it’s so fun. I want to get us all bikes in FL. That would be so fun. Good for you for getting into it!

This is why I got a new bike.. time to get in gear haha

Good luck and you can do it! Stick with it and you’ll be doing 12 milers in no time!

You know what? When I started researching ‘cycling’ to buy my current bike, I was amazed at how much I didn’t know about it. I mean, we all rode bikes as kids, right? You’d think we’d have it all figured out. But I never knew that you were supposed to shift into the easier gears to go uphill. I thought you’d want to downshift and then put all your weight into each turn, but it’s the opposite! Crazy stuff. Basically, you are supposed to keep the same cadence with the pedalling and use the gears to make that happen, rather that using it like a car, where you’d shift down to get more power. And maybe you knew all that, but I didn’t.

Anyhow, I love biking now. :) It’s SO much easier when I’m not pulling the trailer and kid, too.

Lisa, I *did* know that (I had different types of bikes growing up), but still, I am out of shape, yeesh.
